Before Darkness Falls actually was named darkness falls it was The Tooth Fairy: Every Legend Has Its Dark Side. Written by John Fasano, James Vanderbilt, Joe Harris, and directed by Jonathan Liebesman; who also directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Rings. According to IMBD Darkness Falls made 12,024917 in its opening weekend.
Many critics did not enjoy this movie they say that it’s a waste of time to watch. Stephen Holden wrote in the New York Times:
''Darkness Falls'' is an efficient little horror movie that doesn't waste its time getting down to business. About as scary as a ride on a minor roller coaster, it unrolls its amplified butcher-block shock effects within the first five minutes. (The opening salvo, of course, is a false alarm.)
In spite of what some critics may say I enjoyed watching the movie for the first time. It made me glad that I was done losing my primary teeth. Even though this movie was rated PG 13 it had many scary parts to it unlike When a Stranger Calls. What more can you expect from a movie that is not rated R. Although I did enjoy the movie the plot could have been better. Too many flashlights were dropped and it just so happened that the town generator went out. Yea ok. And there is one question about the movie that bothers me; if the tooth fairy was after Kyle all this time how did he manage to stay in the light until he got to his home town? Even though the movie had some plot issues I still enjoyed it.
Back in the 1950’s Matilda was known as the tooth fairy because she gave kids gold coins if they lost a tooth. After surviving a fire that burned her face and caused her to not be able to be exposed to light, two kids in her town came up missing. She was blamed for the murders, and was hung. Many years later a young boy named Kyle was sleeping and heard a noise when he awoke he saw her and flashed a flashlight on her. He called for his mother saying that something was in his room. When his mother came to investigate she was taken by Matilda. Kyle tried to run after her but it was useless, everyone assumed he was crazy and he was put in a mental hospital.
Once Kyle is grown he receives a call from an old friend Caitlin. She called him to ask for help because her younger brother Michael claimed to have seen the same thing that Kyle had years back. Kyle agrees to go back to his hometown to help her and Michael. During the entire movie as they try to escape the tooth fairy it just introduces her to more people in which she just kills. As they try to stay in the light as much as possible their flash lights keep breaking and the town generator goes out which forces them to have to go the light house where they finally conquer Matilda.
And the lesson of the day is: when the tooth fairy comes don’t peek.
