Probably the Best Place to Die

I'll just say it right away; I loved Murders in the Zoo. Yes it did seem a bit silly at times, but not so much to ruin any suspense. And actually there was one scene in particular was pretty gruesome given the time it was made, showing an overprotective husband sewing a man's mouth shut, who was foolish enough to get near his wife.

It's this jealous husband, Eric Gorman, that's doing the murdering in the zoo. First in another attempt to prevent a suave Roger Hewitt from wooing his wife away and then, well, his wife in figuring out he murdered both dudes. As the zoo's main source of exotic animals, Gorman finds some inventive ways of taking people out.

So what you're left with is just a fun movie given its wacky premise. While only being a little over an hour, it tells a great story and doesn't drag at all. And really the movie had me when the opening credits began, slowly fading a picture of an animal to a look-alike character, kinda like those Vytorin ads but better. They are animals after all.

Unfortunately this bit of horror delight isn't out yet on DVD. But I recommend ponying up the eight dollars it takes to enjoy this on VHS. Fans of Lionel Atwill, who played Gorman, should also check out Mystery of the Wax Museum and Mark of the Vampire. He was definitely the premiere actor in this flick.
