Intimidating Movies

I've got a list of movies I made up a few months ago that I'd intend to watch. They all aren't horror films mind you. I think I found a good variety with it ranging from Pandora's Box to The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. All of them are on there for different reasons. Some are highly acclaimed, some have creative imagery, or some are frankly terrible. Each have some way of being distinguished from those standard movie formulas. Yeah it's a large list, but I've been steadily crossing off ones I've seen (sometimes adding movies doesn't help but they need to be on there).

That's good and all, but there are a few movies that I'm actually a little nervous of watching. Yes, me. After sitting through a plethora of gore in Dead Alive, Grindhouse, Kill Bill, 28 Weeks Later, etc. These two movies, infamous for their disturbing scenes, are gonna be tough to watch.

Cannibal Holocaust (1980): Italian horror tends to have some pretty gruesome premises but this one looks to top that distinction. From what I've read, it's got disembowelments, impalements, limb severing, seemingly every type of execution. Any human suffering in a movie I think I can handle, but when it comes to real animal cruelty I might have to fast forward. That stuff never bodes well with me. If Eli Roth says any film is shocking, like Cannibal Holocaust, you believe him. In that article he also mentioned a neat tidbit of information; the actors hid out of public sight after the movie premiered. The director had charges of murder brought on him. Geesh.
Audition (1999): Apparently the gore here doesn't come until the last twenty minutes or so, but the whole movie is a progression to the horrific finale. Business man Aoyama meets a girl and has dinner with her. Pleasant enough right? Below is a scene of Aoyama's first phone call to this girl, Yamazaki, after their first get together. I've probably spoiled a bit of the movie reading some of the twisted stuff that eventually happens so I'll be a little vague when describing to you, the reader. There's torture, most of it dealing with needles and wires. I for one can't stand needles. Ugh.

Anyone else been weary of a movie before? I wonder what motivates some people to watch movies they know are unpleasant. I know it's not just me.
