I know this post is a few days late since Death Proof was released Tuesday. I've had a hectic week and from now on I'll try to post regularly to all of our three readers.
So we all know Tarantino's Death Proof was great as part of Grindhouse. It had compelling (lengthy) dialogue, thrilling car chases, and Kurt Russel perfectly cast as Stunt Man Mike. Again you guys should know that. But it was part of an even larger cinematic experience which included Rodriguez's Planet Terror and a handful of faux-trailers (Machete might even get to be a full fledged film) So with all of this praise, why would it be released separately?
Why else but money? Paying one price for two movies? Not when they both can be sold and make double that. Aside from meager marketing, the film didn't do so hot in theaters because audiences had their asses firmly planted for three hours. That meant less screenings. Granted, I'm sure they will come out with a Grindhouse DVD after Planet Terror is released, whenever that is. I'd expect to pay $30-40, but to all of you who've seen it you know it's worth it.
As far as the Death Proof DVD goes, IGN seemed to like it, even though the extras were a bit bare.
*UPDATE* Planet Terror has a release date, Oct 16
